Issues
Jackie believes that good things can happen when we put partisan politics aside and we work together using Hoosier common sense to make a difference on issues that matter most to Hoosier families. Read more about Jackie’s positions below.
Creating Jobs
As the daughter of a small business owner, Jackie was raised in a family that taught her the value of hard work and what it takes to run a small business. In the Indiana Statehouse, Jackie was part of the team that enacted crucial reforms to lower taxes and create a better environment for job growth. Jackie understands how to get Hoosiers back to work and create better paying jobs here in Indiana. She is working to cut DC’s job-killing red tape and pass commonsense job-creating reforms in Washington.
National Security
Our nation faces increasing threats from those who want to harm our country and destroy our way our life. Jackie is committed to strengthening our national security to prevent terrorists from attacking our nation. She has led the fight to stop the worst of the worst terrorist detainees from being released from GITMO only to return to the fight. Jackie is keenly aware of the danger ISIS poses to our country and is working for bipartisan solutions to keep American families safe.
Support Our Troops
When our nation calls, Hoosiers are the first to respond. Jackie is dedicated to supporting our brave servicemembers and their families who protect and serve this country. The State of Indiana is proud to be an integral part of our national security team and is home to key military bases and the fourth-largest National Guard. Jackie believes we must continue to provide the resources our military needs to carry out their mission abroad and the support their families need at home.
Care for Our Veterans
As the daughter of an Air Force veteran, Jackie is dedicated to improving care and services for war heroes and their families long after they answer the call to serve. She has authored several pieces of legislation to ensure veterans receive the highest quality care and to cut the VA’s disability backlog and layers of bureaucracy so that veterans receive the prompt attention they deserve. Jackie works to hold the VA accountable to improve care for the nearly 53,000 veterans that live in the Second District.
Helping Our Community End Hunger
Jackie believes that no child should go to bed hungry. Before serving in Congress, Jackie and her husband started an organization in Romania to provide food to malnourished children. Now, in Congress is working to ensure support for community organizations that help our local families in need. She has supported legislation to make it easier for people and organizations to donate food to families in need as well provide a pathway out of poverty to empower people with increased independence and job opportunities.
Combat Opioid Abuse
Jackie was a member of the conference committee that reached an agreement on a bipartisan law to combat the horrible opioid abuse epidemic in Indiana and across the nation. In her travels throughout the district, she has met with victims, counselors, and law enforcement to listen to their solutions and to help strengthen community partnerships to help those suffering from opioid addiction.
Repeal Obamacare
Our nation needs a healthcare system that allows families to work with their own doctors to make their own medical decisions. Unfortunately, Obamacare has resulted in skyrocketing premiums and cancellation of coverage for many Hoosiers. Obamacare has also resulted in hundreds of job losses for small businesses, hospitals, and schools in the Second District, causing economic hardship and frustration for hardworking Hoosiers. Instead of forcing Americans to enroll in a broken system that does not address our nation’s healthcare problems, Jackie supports a step-by-step approach to improve healthcare, lower costs, and empower patients. Jackie voted for the law that delayed the onerous medical device tax and supports permanent repeal so that we can protect innovation, create more good-paying jobs in this flourishing industry, and ensure patients have access to advanced healthcare solutions.
Defending Life
Jackie has been recognized nationally for her support of women and unborn children and has been endorsed by National Right to Life, Indiana Right to Life, and Susan B. Anthony List. She voted for legislation to protect medical providers who exercise their conscience rights not to participate in abortions. Jackie has a 100% voting record with National Right to Life and will continue to champion legislation to protect the unborn.
Second Amendment
From her time in the Indiana State House where she co-authored Indiana’s lifetime hand gun permit legislation to her work now Congress, Jackie is committed to defending the Second Amendment and protecting the right to bear arms. Jackie has been endorsed by the NRA.
Cut Wasteful Spending
With our national debt standing at $19 trillion and counting, Jackie firmly believes we must put an end to runaway spending in order to protect future generations and sustain a strong economy. The first piece of legislation that Jackie introduced in Congress was a balanced budget amendment to the Constitution, a model that worked in the State of Indiana, to ensure the president and Congress live within their means and stop overspending money that we simply do not have. Jackie knows that Hoosier families sit around their dining room table to budget and live within their means, and she supports reforms to cut wasteful spending and hold Washington accountable to use your hard earned taxpayer dollars responsibly.
