U.S. Sen. Joe Donnelly and U.S. Rep. Jackie Walorski paid a visit to
Starke County over the weekend. Both took part in Saturday’s veterans
program organized by the Blue Star Mothers. After a parade down Main
Street, both spoke in front of the veterans monument at the Starke
County Courthouse. Donnelly said the sacrifices of those who have
served in our nation’s armed forces ensure we can live our lives in
safety and in freedom.
“We have a sacred obligation to make sure that we hand off to these
children in front of us a better and stronger country every day. And
to all our veterans we have a sacred obligation to you to make sure we
keep our promises for education, for health and for making sure you
have everything you need,” Donnelly told the crowd.
Walorski added there is no other nation like the United States of America.
“There is no greater country with the blessing of God than this
country. And I would hope as we thank all of you today that served,
all we can say is thank you, but I would hope as we go into this
weekend and beyond that we continue to say prayers for our folks that
are fighting overseas and for the battles that are soon to come. May
God bless every one of you. Veterans, may God continue to bless you,
and may God bless the United States of America.”
Service members, veterans and their families were invited to lunch at
Knox United Methodist Church after the parade and program concluded.
