Elkhart Truth: Walorski tapped for influential Ways and Means Committee
January 7, 2017

Ben Quiggle - The position vacated by former U.S. Rep. Todd Young, an Indiana Republican who was just sworn in as a U.S. Senator, is the oldest standing committee in the House, according to a press release. It is the chief tax-writing panel in the House and has jurisdiction over federal revenue, such as Medicare, Social Security, other social programs and many other policies critical to the nation’s economy.

“I am honored to join the House Ways and Means Committee and eager to tackle some of our nation’s biggest challenges,” said Walorski, a Republican from the Jimtown area. “I look forward to working with committee chairman Kevin Brady and our colleagues to fix our broken tax code, repeal and replace Obamacare, help individuals and families lift themselves out of poverty, and expand opportunities for businesses to grow and create good jobs for American workers.”

Walorski has previously served on the Armed Services Committee, Veterans’ Affairs Committee, Budget Committee and Agriculture Committee.

WIMS: Walorski comments on Kerry Speech
December 29, 2016

“Secretary Kerry’s comments today, coming on the heels of the Obama administration’s abstention on the U.N. Security Council’s disgraceful anti-Israel resolution, represent yet another blow to Israel in the final days of the Obama presidency. These comments show why we need new leadership in the White House, and I look forward to working with President-elect Trump to provide real, substantive support to our good friend and ally Israel.”

South Bend Tribune: Walorski earns third term in Congress
November 10, 2016

Kevin Allen - U.S. Rep. Jackie Walorski told supporters on Tuesday night that “our Republican message just rocked the entire state of Indiana.” Walorski rocked the 2nd Congressional District, too.

The Jimtown Republican convincingly won a third two-year term in north-central Indiana’s congressional seat. According to preliminary results, Walorski garnered 59 percent of the vote in the 10-county district to soundly defeat Democrat Lynn Coleman.

It was Walorski’s second-straight blowout victory in the 2nd District.

Walorski won a majority of votes in nine of the district’s 10 counties on Tuesday. St. Joseph County was the only place where Coleman topped Walorski, and even there he won only 49 percent of the vote.

She also won nine of the district’s 10 counties in 2014, when she beat Democrat Joe Bock with 59 percent of the vote. Bock, like Coleman, managed to win St. Joseph County but with only 49 percent of the vote.

This year, Walorski campaigned by emphasizing her work on basic issues that she said are on the minds of 2nd District residents. Those include national security, caring for veterans, taxes and regulations that frustrate farmers and businesses, and the effects that federal programs have on people in poverty.

“The Republican House had a message of better ways to get things done, a better agenda, a better way to keep our nation safe, a better way to continue to build our economy, a better way to take care of our veterans,” Walorski told her supporters on Tuesday night during a victory party at The Vault in downtown South Bend.

“This is a pivotal time in our country,” she said. “Once again, the American people have elected a strong conservative majority in the House to fight for you.”

Walorski thanked her supporters and the people who worked on her campaign. She said she has been “a happy warrior” during the campaign, thanks to her supporters.

She also expressed optimism about the future.

“Our best days in this district, in this state, in this nation are still before us,” she said.

This year was the first time that Coleman, a former South Bend police officer who served in former Mayor Steve Luecke’s administration, ran for elected office.

He highlighted his 40-year career in public service and said he wanted to bring that servant’s approach to Washington. He also criticized Walorski for not making herself available to the general public, especially her decision not to debate him in public or on television. Walorski agreed to hold one debate on a Wabash radio station whose signal doesn’t reach the 2nd District’s population centers in St. Joseph and Elkhart counties.

Coleman said in a concession speech Tuesday night that he was proud of his campaign.

“Two years ago, no one would have believed we would be standing here tonight in a race for United States Congress. We gave it all and we came up short,” he told supporters at the West Side Democratic & Civic Club in South Bend. “We decided that we were going to give it all we had, and that’s what we did for the last 12 months, every single day. I will tell you that I don’t have anything to hold my head down.”

Walorski’s campaign also was able to outspend Coleman’s during the campaign.

Her campaign spent more than $1.7 million during this election cycle, according to Federal Election Commission records that were updated Oct. 19. Coleman’s campaign had spent about $462,000 as of Oct. 19.

After speaking to the audience at The Vault on Tuesday night, Walorski told reporters that this year’s election results felt significant in American history.

“When America wants to change a nation, and when they want to do something and literally put out Washington, this is what they do,” she said.

“When change happens in America, it never happens from the top down, it happens from the grassroots up,” she added. “We were successful tonight because the grassroots in this district said, ‘This is exactly what we want.'”

Indiana Manufacturers Association Endorses Walorski
November 1, 2016

The Indiana Manufacturers Association is pleased to endorse Congresswoman Jackie Walorski for reelection to the United States House of Representatives representing Indiana’s 2nd Congressional District in the November 2016 General Election.

IMA has examined the candidates and determined that Congresswoman Walorski is the superior candidate who will best advance the interests of manufacturing in Indiana.

Indiana is the most manufacturing intensive state in America. More of this state’s economy and jobs are produced by manufacturing than any other industry. Policies that help manufacturers help all Hoosiers.

“While Indiana has made wonderful strides in creating an economic climate that will lead to growth, there are significant issues impacting Indiana’s manufacturers, and many of these issues originate in Washington, D.C.,” said IMA President Brian Burton. “We need leaders who will support tax, environmental, energy, workforce, workplace and labor policies that help businesses expand. Our state needs members of Congress who will support pro-growth, common-sense legislation that helps manufacturers compete around the world. The IMA is confident that Congresswoman Walorski is the best qualified candidate with the most-proven track record to achieve these goals and we are proud to endorse her for reelection.”

About the Indiana Manufacturers Association:

Formed in 1901, the Indiana Manufacturers Association is the second oldest manufacturers association in the country and the only trade association in Indiana that exclusively focuses on manufacturing. The Indiana Manufacturers Association, representing more than 1,400 companies, is dedicated to advocating for a business climate that creates, protects, and promotes quality manufacturing jobs in Indiana. The staff of the Indiana Manufacturers Association has more than 140 years of combined governmental affairs experience and is recognized as experts in many areas including tax, environment, labor relations, human resources, and healthcare. Elkhart Truth: Walorski outlines vision
October 31, 2016

Jackie Walorski says her passion to fight for Hoosiers is what keeps her going.

“I have seen from the inside the kind of difference one legislature can make standing up and fighting for one person,” she said. “I have seen laws change for one person. I have seen the ability to go in and to fight for Hoosiers at every level, no matter whether they voted for me or not. We are linked together by what we believe as Hoosiers.”

Walorski, 53, had been a representative in the Indiana House for six years when she first sought the Second District seat in 2012. Her willingness to reach across the aisle is something not every candidate would highlight, but Walorski says that is part of the reason she has been able to get things done while in office.

“It takes help. You can’t do anything by yourself there,” she said. “You fight hard, you work hard with whoever will work with you to move whatever you want to move, or to play defense and slow down or kill what you think will be bad. I have been successful at both – not by myself, but because I built partnerships across the aisle.”

Walorski is facing a challenge from Democrat Lynn Coleman and Libertarian Ron Cenkush.

Walorski said the key issues and priorities in her district are national security, economic security and veteran care. She spends a lot of “time, energy and passion” focused on those areas when she is in Washington D.C.

“I believe, the last three-and-a-half years, with not having a commander in chief engaged in anything, we are disjointed,” she said. “That is why I think national security is important, and that is why I have done some of the stuff I have done with moving some of these bills, like putting a moratorium in moving Guantanamo Bay detainees, so the president just can’t simply release the worst of the worst to go back into fighting and killing more Americans.”

Economically, she says that “heavy duty, oppressive” federal regulations are hurting businesses.

“There is not a day that goes by that I am not talking to a CEO someplace that says if they would just stop on the manufacturing of regulations. You can’t even get to one before another one is rolling out,” Walorski said.

She is also focused on fixing poverty issues and is actively involved in a GOP initiative called “A Better Way”. The initiative aims to tackle the welfare cliff that some individuals get stuck on and, according to Walorski, keeps people in a poverty cycle.

“What can we roll into tax reform and entitlement reform that will actually build that bridge that allows people to bridge out of poverty,” she said. “We have really put a lot of principles in this intiative that have said we need to get busy and finally get our hand to the plow here and allow people to set themselves free. Instead of just adding more to the problem or throwing things at the problem that don’t work.”

Small Business Endorses Walorski for Re-election
October 31, 2016

The National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB), the nation’s leading representative of small business owners, is endorsing Rep. Jackie Walorski (IN-02) for re-election. Walorski has a strong record of supporting legislation that would help small businesses and should be returned to the U.S. House of Representatives.

“Congresswoman Walorski understands what Indiana small businesses need to thrive and prosper,” said NFIB/Indiana State Director Barbara Quandt Underwood. “She’s been fighting in Washington to relieve the burden of high taxes, red tape, and high health insurance costs. Small business owners in her district want to see her re-elected so she can keep up the good work.”

“I am honored to receive the NFIB’s endorsement, and I am committed to fighting for our small businesses, which drive economic growth and job creation here in the 2nd District,” Walorski said. “I have stood up for small businesses by voting to stop the job-killing medical device tax, delay the burdensome overtime rule, and rein in out-of-control regulations. I look forward to continuing to partner with NFIB, an essential voice for job creators and entrepreneurs, on reforms that enable our local businesses to be successful.”

Walorski was presented the endorsement by at First Response, a Hoosier family-owned small business in South Bend on Monday afternoon.

Walorski’s endorsement comes from the NFIB Save America’s Free Enterprise (SAFE) Trust, the organization’s political action committee. Candidates are selected based on their positions on key small business issues such as taxes, labor, healthcare, and regulatory reform.

Walorski earned a 100 percent NFIB rating 15 votes scored in the 114th Congress, and she has a 100 percent lifetime NFIB voting record.

South Bend Tribune: A Fighter
October 28, 2016

I don’t vote on party lines. I vote for the best person.

After watching the way U.S. Rep. Jackie Walorski has stood up for our veterans and been a leader to keep our nation safe from the increasing threats around the world, I can truly say she has earned my vote. I’ve been especially touched by her concern for those in need and making sure that they don’t fall through the cracks, whether it’s seniors needing help with Social Security or those struggling to get food stamps. It’s nice knowing that we have a congresswoman who is fighting for the people in the district like me.
