“Indiana has proven that lawmakers can work together to turn a deficit into a surplus, cut spending, and create jobs,” said Walorski.  “I’m confident that under Governor Pence’s leadership our state will continue to be a model for the nation, and I look forward to bringing some Hoosier common sense to Washington.”

Walorski, a former State Representative, sat with members of the federal delegation as the Indiana General Assembly unveiled their tentative plans for the upcoming Congress, including further tax reform and bipartisan plans to improve economic development and create jobs.  Indiana currently enjoys a $2 billion budget reserve as a result of successful pro-growth policies and state spending cuts. 

“I’m proud that Indiana’s leadership has set the tone for this session, highlighting the importance of bipartisanship and teamwork on both the state and federal level to continue serving Hoosier families,” said Walorski.

While today was the Indiana General Assembly’s first official day, legislative work will begin on January 7th.  During this 4-month session, lawmakers must settle on a state budget for 2014-15.

Mayor Dave Wood and State Representative Timothy Wesco joined the candidates, and both officials have endorsed Walorski’s candidacy for U.S. Congress.   Walorski will continue to make her final stops throughout the day in Elkhart and Fulton Counties, including a Spaghetti Lunch at Elkhart Kiwanis Club.

“We have been in over a dozen businesses on this jobs tour alone, from coffee shops to large manufacturing companies, and it is clear that Hoosiers are frustrated with the uncertainty from Washington that is delaying job growth and economic prosperity,” said Walorski.

Walorski kicked off the “Main Street Jobs Tour” in La Porte’s TT Cookery Café, and has visited a variety of small businesses to listen to Hoosiers and better grasp factors that are inhibiting economic development.

“I appreciate Jackie touring our plant, meeting our employees, and hearing more about how she can be helpful to our business on the federal level,” said J.W. Hicks of Knox.

Walorski has received ample support from the business community, including endorsements from the US and Indiana Chambers of Commerce and the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB).   Their backing is credited to her record of supporting pro-business polices in the State House, including the establishment of the Indiana Economic Development Council that has brought thousands of private sector jobs to Indiana. 

“We must restore confidence in the business community, and it starts with balancing the budget and reducing onerous regulations.   I support the full repeal of Obamacare, which is driving up healthcare costs and increasing taxes for Hoosier businesses,” said Walorski.

The candidate has toured businesses in La Porte, Peru, Wabash, Plymouth, Rochester, and Knox.  Additional tours are scheduled for Mishawaka, Walkerton, and Lakeville before the Election.

Veterans For JackieElkhart, IN-

Walorski was joined by a robust group of over 35 supporters of all ages representing each of the different service branches.  During the event, Walorski spent most of her time mingling with the veterans and briefly addressed the group to again express her gratitude for their support and plans to continue representing their needs in Congress.  Walorski also led the Pledge of Allegiance to conclude the gathering.

“I’m supporting Jackie because I am proud of her extensive public service record.  She has always fought in the best interest of all Hoosiers, including veterans, and I know she will do the same thing in Washington,” said Jim Grey, a South Bend Navy Veteran.

Walorski cited multiple bills she supported during her time in the State Legislature to benefit veterans, including allowing better access to education and providing preferences to veteran owned businesses.  The candidate has also vowed to prioritize medical benefits and job support for returning veterans, including better care options and job training.

The candidate plans to continue building her veterans coalition in the coming weeks, with visits planned at multiple veterans’ organizations throughout the district.

Mullen’s DC residency remains a challenge for his campaign; BuzzFeed Politics today published an article questioning his home as displayed in campaign ads.

Elkhart, IN- Reaffirming her commitment to Indiana’s dedicated first responders, Republican Congressional Candidate Jackie Walorski (IN-02) spent time this week visiting local public safety stations in the second district.

“I am honored to spend time visiting first responders in our district, especially as we call to mind the tragic events of the September 11^th attacks,” said Walorski.  “As the daughter of a firefighter, I am humbled by their bravery and appreciate the opportunity to express my gratitude for their commitment to our communities.”

Walorski toured public safety stations in Winamac, Peru and Rochester to take a closer look at each facility’s operation and equipment that is used to protect Hoosier communities.  At every location, Walorski asked police and firemen questions about their needs and concerns for the future of pubic safety in Indiana.

“As a police officer in North-Central Indiana, I have contacted Jackie with various issues over the years.  Jackie has continually displayed a willingness to make herself directly available to me,” said South Bend Police Officer Chris Slager.

City Mayors Mark Smiley and Jim Walker accompanied Walorski in Rochester and Peru during her visits.  The congressional candidate will also speak to Elkhart County First Responders and members of the Armed Services later today at the Patriot Day Ceremony at Wakarusa Memorial Park in remembrance of the September 11^th Anniversary.
